海外直接投資の国内設備投資への影響に関する実証研究は日本ではまだほとんど行われておらず、本稿では海外進出を行っている製造業を対象としたサーベイデータによる分析を行った。その結果、同業種と比較して相対的に高い労働生産性を持つ企業では、海外投資比率（海外直接投資／国内設備投資）も高く、国内設備投資を縮小する予定の企業であっても海外直接投資を拡大させる傾向にあることが明らかとなった。また、アジア進出企業では、企業の円高期待が高まるほど海外直接投資を拡大する一方で、国内設備投資を縮小する傾向もみられた。業種内でも相対的に生産性の高い企業が、海外直接投資の拡大と同時に国内設備投資が縮小していけば、国内製造業は生産性向上の源泉を失うことにもつながりかねない。今後とも国内設備投資の動向を質的な面からも注視していく必要があろう。

概要 （英文）

To analyze the effects of outbound foreign direct investment (FDI) on the domestic business fixed capital investment have become important under the global economy, however there are few empirical studies on it. In this paper we present an empirical approach using survey data of 166 Japanese multinational corporations in the manufacturing sector. The major results are summarized as follows:First, a firm promotes FDI when its managerial resources is superior to the average. Also we found that this type of superiority is the major influential factor when the firm decide to substitute FDI for domestic investment. Second, a firm investing mainly in Asia tends to replace domestic investment by FDI when they expect appreciation of the Yen in the future. The implication of this study is that domestic industry might be in danger of losing productivity growth if outbound FDI of highly efficient firms reduce domestic investment.
