低炭素社会に向けた流れの中，欧米電気事業者は地球温暖化問題への取組みを促進している。しかし，それぞれの事業環境に応じた取組みの共通点・相違点などに関する整理は十分になされていない。そこで本稿では、欧米の主要電気事業者5社（AEP（米），Duke Energy（米），EDF（仏），RWE（独），ENEL（伊））を採り上げ，各社の地球温暖化問題への取組みを，電源構成や環境政策との関係に基づき整理する。その結果、5つの点について指摘した。

概要 （英文）

This report surveyed various management efforts of five large investor-owaned electric power companies in the U.S. and Europe. Based on the investigation, we summarized their approaches and examined those relationships with the legislation and the regulation which were diffiferent among firms. As a result, we identified four groups of efforts regarding the generation fuel mix and the demand-side approach. First, three European companies promote international expansions of nuclear business, in particular, EDF announces aggressive target of CO2 reduction with the benefit of lower CO2 emission rate. In addition, EDF promotes heat pumps through its affiliate company, EDF ENR. Second, AEP, Duke Energy and RWE, which are characterized by higher coal generation share, promote development of clean-coal technologies and intend to lead the industry in the field. Third, European companies increasingly invest in renewable energy sources to seek a business chance on the one hand, but at the same time to meet regulatory requirements. Fourth, AEP and Duke promote energy efficiency and smart meter deployment under the government's policy of environmental protection and energy savings.
