In order to reduce the reactivity with CO2 of AECeO3(AE=Ba or Sr), it was proposed that the metal/oxide composite membrane type electrolyte (Pd/AECeO3) of metal Pd, which is hydrogen permeable membrane, and AECeO3. The new Pd/SrCeO3 composite membrane maintained the pure proton conductivity of current efficiency equal to 1 in an electrochemical hydrogen permeable experiment, and hardly reacted with CO2 in the exposure examination under CO2 atmosphere. Then, when the Pd/SrCeO3 electrolyte was applied to the fuel cell using the fuel containing CO2, it was confirmed generating the stable power for a long time. On the other hand, in order to materialize about the same present performance and present raw-material cost as SOFC, it was clear that it is necessary to composite BaCeO3 with the higher protonic conductivity instead of SrCeO3 of a Pd/SrCeO3 membrane, and to make BaCeO3 thin to 20μm and Pd thin to 0.1μm.
