IN NUCLEAR-FUEL REPROCESSING PLANTS,RESIDUE,WHICH IS FINE SOLID PARTICLES SUSPENDED IN THE FUEL-DISSOLUTION SOLUTION,MAY DISTURB THE EXTRACTION PROCESS IF IT IS CARRIED INTO A MIXER SETTER OR PULSED COLUMN. THE AMOUNT OF RESIDUE IS REPORTED TO INCREASE WITHTHE FUEL BURNUP. THUS,IT IS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND THE PROPERTIES OF THE RESIDUE. IN THIS STUDY,WE CARRIED OUT A DISSOLUTION TEST OF HIGH-BURNUP FUEL(70MWD/KGU)AND ANALYZED THE RESIDUE. THIS FUEL HAD BEEN IRRADIATED IN THE DR3 TEST REACTOR IN DENMARK. THE AMOUNT OF THE RESIDUE OBTAINED FROM THIS HIGH-BURNUP FUEL IS ABOUT TWICE THAT COMPARED TO NORMAL LWR FUELS. THE MAIN COMPANENTS OF THE RESIDUE ARE MO,TC,RU,RH AND PD. THE RELATIVE RATIONS OF THESE FIVE ELEMENTS ARE ALMOST SAME IN THE METALLIC PARTICLES IN THE FUEL,IN THE METALLIC PARTICLES IN THE RESIDUE AND IN THE FINES IN THE RESIDUES AND IN THE SOLUTION OF THE RESIDUE. THIS MEANS THAT THE MAJORITY OF THE RESIDUE IN THE FUEL-DISSOLUTION SOLUTION ORIGINATES FROM THE METALLIC PARTICLES IN THE FUEL.
