WE ANALYZED DATA OF A MARKET RESEARCH FOR RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMERS IN TOKYO AREA, USING VARIOUS METHODS OF MULTIVARIATE STATISTICAL ANALYSES. WE OBTAINED FOLLOWING RESULTS. FIRST, FACTOR ANALYSIS AND HAYASHI S QUANTIFICATION THEORY 3 (A KIND OF OPTIMAL SCALING) ARE USEFUL TO INVESTIGATE TASTE AND DESIRE OF CUSTOMERS. SECOND, WE PROPOSED A METHOD OF COLLINEARITY DIAGNOSTICS AND DETECTING ITEMS THAT SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECT A DEPENDENT VARIABLE FOR HAYASHI S QUANTIFICATION THEORY I MODEL (LINEAR REGRESSION ON NOMINAL SCALE VARIABLES). THIRD, CHERNOFF S FACE GRAPH AND FACTOR SCORE PLOTTING ARE BOTH USEFUL TO COMPARE IMAGES OF ALTERNATIVE ENERGY RESOURCES. FOURTH, WE PROPOSED A METHOD TO ANALYZE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LIFESTYLE OF CUSTOMERS AND THEIR FEELINGS ABOUT ELECTRICITY OR UTILITIES.
