THE PH OF PRECIPITATION IN JAPAN IS BETWEEN 4.3 AND 5.3. IT IS NEUTRALIZED WHILE INTO STREAMS AND THE PH OF STREAM WATER IS USUALLY ABOVE 7. TO PREDICT THE LONG-TERM CHANGES IN THE NEUTRALIZING REACTION AND IN STREAM WATER CHEMISTRY,WE MUST CLARIFY BOTH THEPATH OF PRECIPITATION TO THE STREAM AND THE CHEMICAL REACTIONS. THIS REPORT PROPOSES SEPARATION OF STREAM WATER BY ISOTOPIC COMPOSITION AND APPLIES THE METHOD TO MOUNTAINOUS WATERSHEDS DURING STORMS. (1)STREAM WATER IS SEPARATED BY ISOTOPIC COMPOSITION INTO THREE COMPONENTS:PRECIPITATION SOIL WATER AND GROUND WATER. (2)THE SEPARATION METHOD IS VALID FOR VERIFYING RUNOFF MODELS USED IN PREDICTION OF STREAM WATER CHEMISTRY AFFECTED BY ACID DEPOSITION. (3)WHEN TEMPORAL VARIATION OF ISOTOPIC COMPOSITION IN PRECIPITATION OCCURS,IT IS NECESSARY TO TAKE THE STORAGE EFFECT OF PRECIPITATION IN THE WATERSHED INTO ACCOUNT.
