BASED ON THE TRIPARTITE AGREEMENT BETWEEN CRIEPI,EPRI AND CEGB,A 27-MONTH COLLABORATIVE STUDY WAS STARTED LAST YEARTO DEVELOP A HIGH-TEMPERATURE,FLAW-ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE THAT IS APPLICABLE TO THE STRUCTURE OF LIQUID METAL REACTORS. THE PRINCIPAL RESULTS AFTER 1 YEAR OBTAINED AT CRIEPI ARE DESCRIBED IN THIS REPORT. THE CRIEPISTUDY HAS PROGRESSED ROUGHLY ON SCHEDULE. THIS REPORT DESCRIBES THE INVESTIGATION OF THE TEST MATERIALS BASIC STRESS-STRAIN CHARACTERISTICS,FUNDAMENTAL CRACK GROWTH EXPERIMENTS AND CREEP-FATIGUE CRACK GROWTH TESTS WITH ASSOCIATED THEORETICAL EVALUATION. THE RESULTS ARE SUMMARIZED ASFOLLOWS: (1)VARIOUS DATA WERE OBTAINED ON THE SUBCRITICAL CRACK GROWTHRATE BY USING SEVERAL KINDS OF TESTS CONDUCTED UNDER MECHANICAL LOADING. (2)IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT SIGNIFICANT CRACK GROWTH CAN BE CAUSED IN THERMAL SHOCK TESTS FOR PREFLAWED CYLINDERS. (3)CRACK GROWTH UNDER PURELY CYCLIC LOADING CONDITIONS CAN BE PREDICTED WITH SUFFICIENT ACCURACY.
