THE INFLUENCE OF SURFACE FILM ON THE CORROSION RESISTANCE OF INCONEL 600 ALLOY WAS EXAMINED FOR 210 HOURS WITH RESPECT TO PH AND CHLORIDE CONCENTRATION IN DEAERATED SOLUTION AT 280 DEGREE. OUR RESULTS ARE AS FOLLOWS: 1) THE SURFACE FILM OF INCONEL 600 ALLOYWAS PROTECTIVE IN THE SOLUTION PH RANGE FROM 3 TO 13,AND IT SUFFERED SLIGHT LOCALIZED AT TACK IN HIGH CHLORIDE SOLUTION. 2) CORROSION OF NICKEL WAS STRONGLY DEPENDENT ON PH AND CHLORIDE CONCENTRATION. 3) THE SURFACE FILM OF INCONEL 600 CONSISTED OF NI,CR,AND FE. AND,CR CONTENT WAS HIGHEST AT THE WATER SIDE OF THE FILM IN BOTH ACID AND ALKALINE SOLUTIONS. 4) THE GOOD CORROSION RESISTANCE OF INCONEL 600 IS ESTIMATED TO BE RESULTED FROM THE CR-RICH SURFACE FILM WHICH GIVES A DENSE STRUCTURE ANDDECREASES SOLUBILITY OF THE OXIDE FILM. 5) THESE RESULTS SUGGESTED THAT THE LOCAL CHANGE OF PH AND LOCAL CONCENTRATION OF CHLORIDE ION ON THESTEAM GENERATOR TUBES WILL NOT ACCELERATE CORROSION OF INCONEL 600 TUBES IF WATER QUALITY ON THE SECONDARY SIDE OF THE STEAM GENERATOR IS CONTROLLED UNDER STANDARD CONDITIONS.
