POWER SYSTEM INSTABILITY CAUSED BY DISTURBANCES IS ROUGHLY CLASSIFIED INTO THE FOLLOWING TWO TYPICAL PATTERNS. (1)THE INITIAL POWER SWING IS TOO BIG TO KEEP THE SYSTEM WITHIN THE TRANSIENT STABLE REGION. (2)THE INITIAL POWER SWING IS NOT SO BIG BUT IT DOES NOT CONVERGE FOR A LONG TIME AND THE FINAL SYSTEM CONDITION GETS TO BE INSTABLE. UP TO THE PRESENT, BOTH PHENOMENA HAVE BEEN ANALYZED BY SIMULATION WHICH NEEDS A RELATIVELY LONG COMPUTATION TIME, ESPECIALLY IN THECASE OF PATTERN(2). THIS REPORT DESCRIBES A NEW THEORY TO JUDGE STABILITY WITH REGARD TO THE PATTERN(2) USING NO SIMULATION TECHNIQUE AND ITSACCURACY IS VERIFIED BY COMPARISON WITH THE SIMULATION RESULTS.
