THIS REPORT DESCRIBES ELECTRIC AND COLLECTING CHARACTERISTICS OF A MODEL PLATE TYPE ESP(ELECTROSTATIC PRECIPITATOR)UNITBY USING FLYASH CONTAMINATED AIR. (1)FOR RODS WITH PINS AS DISCHARGE ELECTRODES,ELECTRIC CHARACTERISTICS WERE THE SAME WITH THOSE IN CLEANAIR.ROUND RODS AND SQUARE RODS SHOWED DECREASES OF CORONA ONSET VOLTAGES AND FLASHOVER VOLTAGESDUE TO AN ATTACHING OF FLYASH TO DISCHARGE RODS.AND THOSE RODS SHOWED INCREASESOF CORONA CURRENT AND THE PEAK VALUE OFION CURRENT DISTRIBUTION IN NEGATIVE POLARITY. (2)IN ADDITION TO LARGECORONA DISCHARGEPOWER FOR AN IMPROVEMENT IN COLLECTIO N EFFICIENCY,IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR ION CURRENT TO FLOW TO,THE WHOLE COLLE CTING PLATE SURFACE AREAS. (3)FLYASH LAYER DEPTH ON A COLLECTING PLATE DECREASES EXPONENTIALLY IN THE DIR ECTION OF WIND FLOW.AN EMPIRICAL FORMU LA WAS DEDUCED TO ESTIMATE FLY-ASH LAY ER DEPTH.A COLLECING PLATE SHAPE FOR U TILIZING ITS SURFACE AREA WAS DISCUSSE D.AND BY ARRANGING ROUND RODS WITH DIF FERENT DIAMETERS AS DISCHARGE ELECTROD ES,A RELATIVELY UNIFORM FLYASH LAYER D EPTH DISTRIBION WAS REALIZED,WHICH IS USEFUL FOR AN UPGRADING A RAPPING EFFI CIENCY.
