大気汚染物質などの影響あるいは施設園芸における最適環境条件などを解明するため,植物体を非破壊のままで生理機能あるいは生育状態を経時的に評価する研究手法の開発が望まれている。蒸散速度や吸水速度に関連した植物生体内の水分情報として注目され,また実地に適用しやすい「茎径変化」をとりあげ,その生理的な意味を調べるため,蒸散流量との関係について検討を行った。その結果,相互の関係は日射量などの影響を著しく受けるが,一定条件下では,比例関係が認められ,茎径変化から植物体内の水分状態についての情報が得られることを検証した。これらの実験結果にもとづき,実地場面における茎径変化の環境評価,あるいは植物生体機能評価への適用についての検討を試みた。
概要 (英文)
THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PAPER WAS TO ELUCIDATETHE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CHANGES IN STEM DIAMETER AND WATER FLUX DETERMINED DIRECTLY BY THE HEAT BALANCE METHOD. EXPERIMENTS TO COMPARE THESETWO METHODS WERE CONDUCTED USING TOMATO GROWING IN SOLUTION CULTURE AND POPLAR GROWN IN SOIL CULTURE IN A GROWTH CHAMBER.CHANGES IN STEM DIAMETER AND WATER FLUX IN BOTH PLANTS WERE ASSOCIATED WITH GROWTH CHAMBER LIGHT INTENSITY.HYSTERESIS LOOPS WERE OBSERVED IN BOTH PARAMETERS UNDERLIGHT CONDITIONSYSTEM DIAMETER DECREASED PROPORTIONALLY WITH INCREASING WATER FLUX IN INCREASED LIGHT INTENSITY,AND INCREASED PROPORTIONALY WITH DECREASING WATER FLUX IN DECREASED LIGHT INTENSITY. CHANGES IN STEMDIAMETER AND WATER FLUX IN TOMATO PLANTS GROWN IN SOLUTION CULTURE WERE SIMULTANEOUSLY MEASURED IN GREENHOUSE.CURRENT RESULTS CLEARLY SHOWED THAT DIURNAL PATTERNS OF BOTH CHANGES IN STEM DIAMETER AND WATER FLUX WERE DEPENDENT ON ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS,ESPECIALLY SOLAR RADIATION. ON CLEAR DAYS,THE DIURNAL PATTERNS OF THE TWO PRAMETERS SHOWED FOUR TYPES DEPENDING ON ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS SUCH ASSOLAR RADIATION.BUT THESE DIURNAL PATTERNS WERE DIVIDED INTO FOUR TIME ZONES.THREE SHOWED LINEAR RESPONSES WITH DIFFERENT COEFFICIENTS WHICH WERE CONSTANT FOR SEVERALDAYS.IN FOURTH TYPE AROUND NOON,CHANGES IN STEM DIAMETER WERE LESS ASSOCIATED WITH WATER FLUX. FURTHER,SOME EXPERIMENTS HAVE BEEN CONDUCTED TO MONITOR THE CHANGES IN STEM DIAMETER AND EXAMINED THE AVAILABILITY FOR PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS OF THIS METHODS TO ASSESS GROWING CONDITIONS OF INTACT PLANTS OR ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AROUND THE PLANTS.
